Decarb Heat Event at European Sustainable Energy Week 2018
On the occasion of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, the DecarbHeat initiative and its partners would like to invite you to join their event Heating and cooling in Europe – how can we decarbonise the sector by 2050 and fulfil the Paris agreement?, on Thursday 7 June 14.00 – 15.30 at De Gasperi room at the Charlemagne Building, on the future decarbonisation potential of the heating & cooling (H&C) sectors by 2050.
Available technologies are sufficient to fully decarbonise the heating & cooling (H&C) sectors by 2050. Not long ago, energy policy was mainly focused on electricity generation: only recently did H&C receive more attention, notably by a dedicated strategy by DG ENER 2015 and its implementation via the “Clean Energy for all Europeans” package.
Not long ago, energy policy was mainly focused on electricity generation: only recently did H&C receive more attention, notably by a dedicated strategy by DG ENER 2015 and its implementation via the “Clean Energy for all Europeans” package.
While these are steps in the right direction, more ambition is needed to fundamentally change the framework conditions in favour of an accelerated deployment of zero-emission H&C technologies at both European and national level.
This DecarbHeat event, organised by the partners of the DecarbHeat initiative, aims to:
- highlight the status quo of the policy development;
- stress the need for higher ambition based on a scientific evaluation;
- illustrate the possibility of higher ambition via the national perspective of a country who is successfully changing its energy system, albeit heavily based on fossil gas.
Based on these introductory statements, high level representatives from the different H&C industries will present their contribution potential and suggestions for a necessary change of the political and market framework.
The audience is invited to challenge the speakers and panellists via the online tool sli.do.
