Interview with Hans-Martin Friis Møller, CEO of Kalundborg Utility

Hans-Martin Friis Møller is the CEO of Kalundborg Utility in Denmark, which is responsible for drinking water production and distribution, process and cooling water to industries, collecting and treatment of wastewater and district heating using heat pumps. As a thought leader for the DecarbHeat forum, he is optimistic about the decarbonisation process in Europe.

What is your vision for decarbonising heating and cooling in Europe by 2050?

It must be possible to reach the goal  in 2025.

What is your contribution to this vision as stakeholder in your professional environment, but also as individual?

We have put a goal to be energy neutral in 2020 for the utility. As an individual my house is powered 50% by solar and heated by a heat pump.

Who do you think is the strongest ally in making your vision of a decarbonised Europe a reality?

Our network of utilities working to make their waste water and water treatment plant energy neutral or energy producing. Many treatment plants are producing 100% more energy that use for the treatment processes.
